We have new information about the Bed Bath & Beyond loan! According to various articles, the $BBBY loan will be between $370 and $400 million. And with only $108 million on hand and a quarterly burn rate of $357 million, $BBBY needs this money immediately and must resolve its cash burn rate before the end of the next quarter. We learn that the $BBBY loan will be structured as a FILO (first-in, last-out) loan. In a FILO loan, $BBBY receives the full amount at closing, which gives the FILO lender a better place in collateral obligations should $BBBY go bankrupt. The lender for $BBBY’s FILO loan is Sixth Street Partners, a very large lender and investment firm with $60 billion AUM that has worked with several other retailers in financial distress, including Airbnb, Neiman Marcus, Forever 21 and JC Penney.
